Weather man predicted rain this weekend so postponed the boat trip for a couple
weeks.

That first year is a
real learning experience - never a dull moment. We're still learning
and
pups are doing great. Here are a couple pics from our recent boating
trip
with Nanuq. He loves to be anywhere we are & out on the boat is no
exception. He loves to get off & get his feet wet although swimming
doesn't
seem to interest him at this point. He is such a social pup & loved
meeting
everyone at the marina...not a shy bone in this boy. The only mishap
we had
was when we went into a restaurant for breakfast he somehow
figured
out how to break open the emergency latch & out he went. We had
a few
frantic moments but fortunately he came running to me when he saw me.
He
just wanted to go along with us. Needless to say we won't let that
happen
again!!! We're taking him to the lake with us for Memorial Day Weekend -
he's
becoming quite the seasoned traveler..ha ha. He had his own bed when
we
went this last trip and surprisingly used it. Chinook will have her
turn as
well but for safety reasons we'll only take one at a time for now. I'm
not
sure how Chinook will like the boat - it'll be interesting to see.
We'll
probably just take her on a day trip. Nanuq was confused by the motion
of
the dock at first but quickly realized it was ok.
Nanuq starts obedience training this week. We went to the first
class
class (minus pups) last week to learn all the details. We'll keep you
posted of his progress. Sean will take Chinook to the next class as we
wanted them to go separately this time. They distract each other when
they're together.

Nanuq didn't go far...he followed our path from truck in parking lot
right
to restaurant..We didn't see him at first as he'd gone behind the
restaurant
when he didn't find us. Guess he just didn't want to be left behind.
Both
of ours like to be with us at all times as well. If I go upstairs I
usually
have all 3 up & down the stairs with me. Nanuq, like Beckley, will
open
screen doors to get outside to follow me unless they're securely
latched.
We still have 1 of the big enclosures (cage) in the house that they
take
turns going in...no longer needed but they seem to feel like it's their
little inside den. We'll let you know how the lake with Nanuq goes.
He's not
out of my sight this time!

We just returned from 5 days at the Lake and we had to tell
you how much attention Nanuq received. He was pretty much the center of
attention everywhere we went (and he loved it). He was often invited inside
to be introduced - registration office, restaurant, store. Most people couldn't
imagine what kind of dog he was as he's so big - however a few guessed - probably
the eyes. He is just so incredibly friendly with everyone
including children. His only reservation is with other dogs. He did meet one new
friend that was a lab mix but Nanuq's idea of a good play is a little different from
most other dogs. No one is quite as much fun as his sister & we think he was a
little homesick for her as he didn't want to eat much while we were there. We
had to bribe him with left over steak most nights. Of course he's so smart he
probably figured out quickly that we'd bring him special treats. We stayed
at the Motel as they allow dogs - Nikki has stayed several times.
The only mishap was when we went out to dinner the first night at
the restaurant next door - Nanuq took one swipe at the mini blinds to get a
better look & broke them. The people were all so taken with him that no one
minded that blinds had to be replaced - not his fault - he was just looking to
see where we went. We took lots of pictures & will send to you if any turn out.
Next local trip will be Chinooks turn. Not sure if she'll enjoy it or not but want to try.
We'd love to be able to take them both but wouldn't risk it unless they both liked it
& were comfortable with the routine. I kept Nanuq on his leash at all times when
we were out for safety. They are amazing animals.

Well here are a couple more pics for you that we took at the lake.
One is Mike showing off a fish he caught with a very interested Nanuq looking on.
Next time we'll have to take Chinook & show her off as well. She is still the pretty
one. We're always told how distinguished Nanuq looks - not to mention big but
we're told how beautiful Chinook is & to us just such a little love bug. She always
wants to be close & better yet if she's getting pats and belly rubs.

Glad you got the pics...fish was 24" - 4lb rainbow trout. Nanuq's
lifejacket came from Petsmart. Hard to find the extra large size but
it
works perfectly. At this point he's not interested in jumping right
into
the water although loves running & splashing at the shore line. The
Lake
is so deep that we wanted the lifejacket as safety precaution.
