Pups got their first taste of Goats Milk and Cereal and as expected they took one taste
and gave the this isn't mom look. We have caught the puppies a bunch of times
walking back to their bathroom area going on their own, the boy does better than
the girls as the girls are a little more stubborn about going. They are almost up on
all fours without wobbling. They spent a lot of time today all star puppy wrestling
growling and play biting with their just stating to show pointed little tiny milk teeth.
Mom doesn't really care for this time but the pups have not chewed on her or scratched
her raw as the pups did last year.
Pups wrestled and slept and grew today but mostly slept. They are still not too sure of
the puppy cereal and goats milk yet # 1 cause they are always full and mom is still letting
them nurse. She however loves the cereal so they get it either way. They are going to the
bathroom on their own now (that is with out mom or Beckley's help) and it is important to be
as consistent as possible putting them on the paper 24 - 7 because they will be lazy and
go where ever. Mom gets a real disgusted look if they should go on the blanket by her pillow
and usually will clean it up best she can and walks back out of the box.
It was another soggy day of liquid sunshine here in the Pacific Northwest (rain).
Pups celebrated valentines day playing with each other and are now playing with toys.
After getting the hang of walking they are trying to run with as you can imagine comical results.
Big brother Beckley loves to go in the box and have the pups play on him and with him, it is really
amazing to see the gentleness of this 150 lb 1 year old pup he truly loves these little guys.
The pups can stand on the pig rail and look out of the whelping box it won't be long now
before we will have to add a board to the opening to keep them from jumping out.
The pups are getting cuter by the day and starting to make a lot of different facial expression.
The pups are starting to play hard and bite to the point of hurting
and they are finding out if one bites the other too hard they will get
bit back hard. Mom goes in a gives them a whine scolding when they bite
too hard. I had to trim their little toe nails which grow fast and long and sharp.
These guys are really getting use to being handled and just cuddle in and enjoy
the love. As we mentioned if the weather turns nice toward the end of this week
they will get to go outside for the first time. ( so much for them being white) lol.
Sampson continues to grow and no longer the littlest we think he more than likely
came from the breeding on 11-20 not at the first11-17 and was just 3 days behind
the girls but you can't tell anymore.
We think the boy pup is either about to or as surpassed the girls in size. They
are still eating a lot and you can almost watch them grow when they sleep.
They are so funny because they are just at the right height to grab one of
moms nipples when she goes by and hang on. Moms not real happy about their new
little sharp teeth. I have found the right combination of ground up puppy chow
and the let the eating begin it is the start of chow hounds, The girls are little more
meaner always biting the boy and making him cry, he does get his revenge but he
lets go right away when they scream. When I was cleaning the whelping box
I put the pups in a cardboard box outside the whelping box, they climbed
out and went adventuring around the kitchen today they're so funny when they first
get on a new surface. The pups get all wiggly now when you go to the box and even give little
whines if you don't go and say hello when you go by. They had lots of company
this weekend and it seems every time they wanted to nap someone was here to hold
them and they would just drop off and sleep. The girls that were here shot a 128
and a 256 mg card on their digital camera. One of Beckley's kitties is in the box and
all the pups are biting him and climbing on him and the dang cat seems to love it, Dad
was nervous about it but mom told him he couldn't come in, poor dad and she said the cat could stay.
Today was another puppy handler day as they were here in force. The puppies
are now able to get out of the whelping box (Thanks Beckley) and will come out
to visit after a nap, nursing or potty break. We do have boards that we can put
up but if they know we or the big dogs are outside we get shown puppy lung
power and they can really put up a fuss.
Oh by the way can you tell the
puppies will have a great start on being spoiled. Tomorrow will be their one
month birthday and we can't wait for the shot of all four. And finally they will
all have names rather than 1, 2, etc.
Well here we are at the half way point 4 weeks old these guys are
going to be missed. With half the pups of last year we are fortunate
to have double the time with each one, and everyone has already such
nice personalities. They are all big and healthy and very receptive to the
human touch. They love to nibble on noses and ears and always bite on Dad#2's
beard. It still amazes us how much they change from week to week both in
physical size and personalities. Mom reiterated to them that is time
for them to start eating solid food, as she ate their food and then her
food and regurgitated on one of them, (we think the one that bites the most
when nursing) note that they didn't really seem all that interested in the food
when I gave it to them but with moms seal of approval the gobbled it down.
It was so funny because when Beckley heard mom serving dinner he came a runnin'.
It may be a little gross but that's nature and what they do. (I don't know if dogs do this too)
Well for their 4 week birthday they all came out of the box and nursed and played
with mom and big brother on the living room rug, they had a super time and got really
tired out. Two of the main puppy handlers came today and got to stay for almost 6 hours.
They too get kind of sad because they love each of the guys very much and spend a lot
of time with them and we are convinced that they play a very big role in making these
guys the super nice dogs that they are and we are very lucky to have them come and
spend so much time handling the puppies, as we do not have children of our own.
